Mt. Kilimanjaro Adventures

At an elevation of 19,341 feet (5,895 meters), Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest elevation in Tanzania and all of Africa, and is one of the Seven Summits. Thus, the highest point along it's summit crater, Uhuru Point, is a valued objective for the world's mountaineers. Snow-covered in an African setting, its majesty also carries a romantic aspect rivaled by few mountains in the world. The long, gradual slopes of this dormant volcano make it an accessible goal without the need for technical skills, and hikers from around the world visit Tanzania by the tens of thousands each year to climb it, many with Zara Tours.

Kilimanjaro's slopes are traced by several different routes. The amount of traffic, type of terrain, and views are different for each route and thus create as many unique experiences. You may alter this experience by choosing to trek from 5 to 8 days, depending on your personal preference for pace, acclimatization, and absorbing the mountain's environment.

Read below the details of each route, and click this link to inspect your booking options.

Zara's Kilimanjaro Options

How do I choose the Route?

Around 80% of climbers choose the Marangu (5-6 days) which is commonly referred to as the “tourist” or “Coca-Cola” route.  The remaining 20% use the Machame, Umbwe, or Rongai route.

Each route has different characteristics which may or may not appeal to you.

Consider the difficulty, scenery and crowds when you select your route. Other factors that should be considered are your age, fitness level, medical conditions, backpacking and hiking experience, experience at high altitude, degree of motivation, and any other special considerations. Zara Tours recommends Northern Circuit, Lemosho, Machame and Rongai.

Please note that many of these routes meet at the mid-way point, as there are only three routes to the summit.

Safari Adventures

Africa may be best known for its wildlife, and Tanzania is blessed with the best preserved land in which you can view animals in the wild. In fact, Tanzania has 25% of its land protected, more than any other African country. And ideally for the hiker, Tanzania offers visitors a combination of Mt. Kilimanjaro climbs with wildlife Safari.

Wildlife safaris can last anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks, depending on the visitor's interests. The average safari is 5 days.

In addition to selecting the number of days, visitors can choose which national parks and conservation areas they'd like to visit, and choose the type of accommodations, whether it be lodges or the surprisingly comfortable permanent wildcamp tents which are strategically located in the best wildlife locations.

Zara Tours' safaris are staffed by professional guides who are experienced with wildlife and are trained in English, visitor relations, and safety. Their   conducts safaris in 4-wheel drive Toyota Land Cruisers with pop up roofs, and maintains a fleet of 22 vehicles ready to take visitors to a variety of prime locations, as described below.

Staffed by professional safari guides who have intimate knowledge of the National Parks of Northern Tanzania, our experts know where to find the wildlife, either through experience or through a network of communication with other guides. They can spot animals from great distances and do their best to bring you close for an unforgettable encounter with Africa's majestic animals.
